One of Barack Obama’s top musicians of 2020, Chika drops her new six-song EP called Once Upon A Time. With fast-paced, articulate, and meaningful raps of optimism and positivity which is a lane that’s missing currently in Hip Hop. She has a wonderful ability to mesh soulful melodies and gospel elements in her production, the whole EP is smooth front to back.
Chika explains to Apple Music’s Ebro Darden “a lot of the fairytales that we grew up hearing and listening to, they’re all European, they’re all white, and I think that there is something to be said about Black people seeing themselves in stories, and having lessons and allegories to be able to base their lives off of, and see a reflection of themselves. It’s not that we didn’t exist, it’s that we were omitted from these stories.”

The Grammy-nominee, activist, artist, and actor’s hustle is undeniable, with her first acting role in the Jamie Foxx-led Netflix movie Project Power, a powerful NPR Tiny Desks performance, and now Chika is set to perform at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
