Directed by frequent collaborators The Rest and continuing on the narrative from “After Winter”, the “700 PENNIES” visual depicts Kojey symbolically his shedding his skin to reveal a more relatable and human side to his art. Kojey opts to highlight some the complexities of love in the simplest way possible with picturesque scenes of passion unraveling into moments of intimacy that never seem to happen. “700 PENNIES” has been nominated for VOTD TV. Quoting on the video; Kojey says “For me, it’s important that all people can identify themselves within aspects of my music. I am liberated through my art so it was important for me to challenge some of the confinements of hyper-masculinity within hip-hop (especially UK hip-hop) and incorporate a level of sexual diversity that represented love as a whole. Love is simple, being in love isn’t. It can be distorting and confusing, especially when you’re young and so rooted to connections and energy. I wanted to create a love song that described my experience of having to love someone at a distance and telling them even if this was my last I would spend it all on you.”
‘IN GODS BODY’ flows seamlessly between energetic trap inspired 808’s and crisp jazz-influenced live instrumentation. The production sees the likes of KZ, Zach Nahome, Parker, Greatness Jones and Pote come together to create a perfect home for Kojey’s versatile and introspective rhyme patterns. Complimented with guest vocals from UK legends Ghetts and Shola Ama; transatlantic collaborations from Miloh Smith, MARTi and stand out vocal performances by Collard, Tamera Foster, Obongjayar and Shae. Kojey heads out on his headline UK tour beginning at VILLAGE UNDERGROUND on October 25th, and promises to bring an explosive live show complete with a magnitude of special guests which sees him return to a London stage for the first time in 12 months since his sold-out Jazz Cafe show in September 2016.
